What do math and beauty routines have in common?
My daughter, Jackie, is in 5th grade. We have our mother-daughter conflicts but get along well. Except when we do math together. Unfortunately, in these crazy days of coronavirus Jackie and I spend a lot of "quality" time doing arithmetic.
So I have to ask: What brain dead moron came up with the new math curriculum?
Near as I can tell, elementary school math in 2020 requires finding answers in the slowest, most complicated way that requires the most steps and most work. When Jackie and I work together any short cuts I suggest are vehemently resisted. "THAT'S NOT HOW WE DO IT, MOM!"
Truly, these are the precious moments. Why didn't I try homeschooling sooner?
In the real world, of course, finding the solution using the simplest or smallest effort is always prized. In STEM fields this is called the elegant solution. One line of code is always better than two if the designated end point is reached. Just a thought, but if we want our girls to succeed in science, technology and math we might consider teaching them how these fields operate.
The bottom line is the long way is never the right way. The idea is to achieve the desired result in the most efficient way possible. This notion is a guiding principal of every product and service at Jessica Johnson Beauty. Our philosophy is rooted in maximizing results with fewer products, fewer steps, less time, less effort, less money. In short, our sights are set on elegant solutions for looking and feeling your best.
